Skaven Warlock Engineer Completed

Greetings pestilent friends. I have been slow with my painting recently, but have finally finished my Warlock Engineer.

I wanted to reflect the twisted technology possessed by this character by using a Warlock-Augmented Halberd, and so followed the guide in White Dwarf no 362 for painting crystalline surfaces (Eldar power weapons), and swapped the blues for greens (namely snot green and scorpion green in the old gw colours). I'm really pleased with how the effect turned out, as well as the model as a whole.

 

I also had time to paint my poisoned wind mortar team, and went for a swirling warpstone infused gas look for inside the globes.

Next up on the painting agenda is a blood bowl orc for the new team that I am hoping to make. I have simply used a spare model from the assualt on black reach set and chopped off his weapons and posed him in a position where he looks like he is about to smash into someone. Here is how he looks so far:

I plan to add more AoBR orks for linemen, some WFB Black Orcs, a few goblins and a stone troll. Early days yet though as I also want to get started on my Dark Angels from Dark Vengeance and make more progress on my Skaven. Until next time folks...

Tale of Three Gamers (Skaven Update)

Greetings fellow followers of The Decayed One, it feels ages since I last posted, I must have got lost in Nurgle's garden. In actual fact I have been busy the last few weeks redecorating, however I have a progress update to show you:

Skavenslaves (almost complete)

Recently I have been working on my skavenslaves unit. I now have 6 ranks of slaves completed, so only another 10 slaves to paint for the list :) Currently half the slaves have shields and half don't (this is due to using the starter set for half of them. In time the ones with shields will be a second clan rat unit, and I will paint up more scabby ones as slaves without shields).

You may notice a skink which my girlfriend painted for me, and also a couple of night goblins who have been strung along into the horde (through no choice of their own I'm sure). I'm hoping to add another couple of non-ratty types to the group as well as more rats with whips to herd them on.

So as for the progress updates here are all the models I have painted so far for my list:

Rat Ogres and Packmaster (Complete)

Clanrats with spears and shields (19 more to paint)

My list is starting to come together, but still a lot of rats left to get through. I'm currently halfway through painting the Warlock Engineer and the Poisoned Wind Mortar team (trying out a new technique on the warlock's halberd too, so hopefully that will come off well), but am on holiday next week, so no painting :( but lots of sun and fun :)

Tale of Three Gamers (Orc & Goblins)

Good day to you all and thank you for dropping in to join us again. We apologise for being a bit slack lately. We've had a variety of distractions lately. Myself, I have been sorting the completion date on a purchase of my first house with my girlfriend. This all completes next week and this unfortunately means majority of my spare time will be put into moving in and getting the house decorated and what not.

However as I did promise last time I have finished my first 5 Orc Boyz with dual hand weapons the other day. I only need to glue a bit of static grass to them and they should be done. I am unsure when I will be able to get more Orcs done with 6th Edition being announced as I may start on some of my Chaos minions.

Before I forget, thank you all who voted for my Thunderwolf. I didn't have the time to put as much effort in as my Nurgle Chaos Lord and I was not expecting victory this time around.

Dorn's Arrow's Finished Thunderwolf

Greetings fellow followers of the Plague God. On Friday I finally finished my Thunderwolf (sorry about the delay, its been a very busy couple of weeks).

This was a fantastic opportunity to try out some new techniques (I have never painted that much fur),  and just a great chance to paint one of the Sons of Ruus. For the wolf I wanted to base the colours on those on the front of the box, and so went for a striped wolf of greys and browns, with a blend into a khaki highlight to tie the colours together naturally. I also wanted to go with a snowy base and so this was the first model I have tried modelling snow on and am quite pleased with the way the wolf and base go together as though its a natural habitat.

The kit was great with lots of options. Being a Crimson Fists player, there is just something in me which screams "grab the power fist!" So I did. Assembling the kit did take a while as Mighty Simo mentioned in his post, but the resulting pose is really dynamic and there were so many options no one really had to surrender any items they wanted to use.

To paint the marine I followed the tips in a recent white dwarf (with the old paints) although I added a few layers between the basecoat and edge highlight to blend the armour colours a bit more. Adding battle damage was also a first for me, and I am really pleased with the effect.

And one of the reasons I'm so late with the Thunderwolf is that I was halfway through another batch of 5 Stormvermin for the Tale of X Gamers. So there they are. On other news, its my birthday today, and my girlfriend bought me the 'How to Paint Citadel Miniatures' book and DVD, so I'm very pleased (and impressed) and am about to crack on with some more slave rats for my list. HOTpanda

Well done to HOTpanda, for those of you unfamiliar with this particular breed of bear let me tell you a tale. Some say that HOTpandas live on the fringes of society as it is only there they can defend this doomed world from the evil sentient donuts who wish to turn man kind into slaves in their batter mines.

Occasionally allying with a whole host of robotic war machines these mighty beasts are all that stands between us and cold greasy whip of the donut overlords. If you would like to aid in their fight you can find them in the Chaos corrupted Bamboo forests.

I can reveal he is in fact not a Trygon but his profile picture was of a different hive fleet so I thought his latest painted monster did him more justice. Looking at his latest posts there does looks to be more to come in the near future so worth checking in on if you like uncompromising nightmarish creatures and their painted Tyranids.

The Results Are In And We Have Our First Winner!

Dorn's Arrow's Finished Chaos Nurgle Lord (and whats that on the horizon?)

Hi there followers of the pestilent one, I finally have photos of my completed Nurgle Lord.

Although I was the first to finish painting the model, my lack of decent photos means that my post is somewhat belated. What I wanted to get out of this competition was to try out some new skills. The armour is where I have practised my first use of blending. I wanted to achieve a death guard type light green colour and am very happy with the result. I got this colour by using a foundation of fortress grey, followed by a couple of washes of catachen green. I then glazed adeptus battlegrey with a tiny amount of enchanted blue over the armour. After this I used a couple of layers of watered down gretchen green, pulling the brush away from the recessed areas and towards the raised areas. I repeated this step, gradually adding in rotten flesh and leaving part of the previous colour showing.

This model was a joy to paint, with no real fiddly or hard to get to areas, and I think it may inspire me to start my own warriors of chaos army. My obsessive compulsive nature is going to make it hard to let go of this model, and I may have to instead award the winner of my model with a brand new boxed version as this plague fiend whispers to me from my shelf. As for now, I have just completed painting my Heldenhammer from the Dreadfleet set... it took me much longer than expected as it is such a detailed model. Here is a rough photo from my phone:

O'Shashar's Finished Chaos Nurgle Lord

Good evening followers of Nurgle and welcome back to our pestilent domain. The time of reckoning is drawing closer and soon the voting will commence on which Nurgle Lord our followers find the most repugnant.

The final day for us to finish painting is the 29th at which point I will put a poll up for you to cast your vote for your favourite. Now you have all seen Mighty Simo's and I hear he is venturing into the dank dungeon that holds the shambling horror that is Dorn's Arrow to give his model a glamorous photo shoot for your twisted pleasure.

However this post is about neither of my fellow pawns in Papa Nurgle's games and is about my contribution to our competition. So without further ado here is my Nurgle Lord of Chaos in all his filthy glory.

As you can see I have tried to go with how I feel a Nurgle Lord should be rather than the artwork Games Workshop has provided us with. I went for a more rusted look to the armour without taking it to the point that it would crumble to dust if it was struck.

Next up was the skin, I imagine this brute to be constantly at war rather than recently converted, he is a Lord after all and not a freshly formed conscript. So a more advanced stage of decomposition was in order and I thought a green hue leant itself well to this.

The horn and skulls I tried to give a dirty appearance to as he doesn't strike me as the kind of chap who would take the time to boil the flesh off and bleach his trophies so much as throw it on his belt until all that remained was the bone.

With his loin cloth I went for purple to compliment the green while making sure it was suitably filthy while still covering his modesty.

I tried to keep the base simple as he is a rather large model for the base size he is on so rather than try to over crowd it I just picked out the rocks in a grey tone while giving the ground a muddy appearance as don't imagine much grass would survive his march.

Overall I really enjoyed painting this model and hope who ever becomes his new owner takes care of the ugly little monster.

Nurgle Lord Complete

Good afternoon fellow plague bearers, many of you may know that a couple of weeks back we reached 50 followers. Myself, Dorn's Arrow and O'Shashar are each painting a Nurgle Lord in a mini competition to commemorate this mile stone. The model was an obvious choice for the theme of our blog.

I have to say I have relished the opportunity to paint the Nurgle Lord. I have taken my inspiration for my paint scheme from the one by the 'Eavy Metal team. I have given it a slight twist and I am overall pleased with the outcome. The amour did not turn out as dark as I wanted and I am still unsure of the bloody pus coming from his belly. Anyway I am sure you all dying to see my Nurgle Lord so here are some pictures below.

Tale of Three Gamers Update (Orcs and Goblins)

Good day and welcome fellow children of the Plague Father. Today I have for you another update on my Orc and Goblin horde. I am more or less on track, about half way through my horde of green skins. I managed to finish my command for my Orc Boyz mob. I think they have turned out quite nicely as you can see below.


On another note if you are not aware, myself, O'Shashar and Dorn's Arrow are having a little painting competition in commemoration of getting 50 members. We have achieved this in 10 months, which I have to say I never expected so thank you all for sticking with us.

Now we came to decision that to bring in the theme of our blog it would be fitting to use a Nurgle model and after some discussion we went for the recent Nurgle Chaos Lord. I loved the look of this model as soon as I saw it and will find it a joy to paint, but I will admit it will be sad to see it go once I have it completed, but I might purchase another one just for myself ;).

I am going to try and replicate the 'Eavy Metal teams paint scheme, because I feel that it matches the model so well, I am going to make a few tweaks and obviously it wont be painted as good (as I wouldn't have my desk job that's for sure if I was). I have him sprayed and ready to start.

Tale of Three Gamers (Orcs and Goblins)

Good afternoon and welcome to Nurgle's Cupboard of delights. We apologise for not posting on a regular weekly basis. We are all tied up in other activities at the moment. However, I have managed to pull something together for you all today. I have finished the command for my Night Goblin spear man unit. This now means I have 20 man unit completed and I have started on the command for my Orc Boyz with shields. In the future I aim to increase the number to 40 so I can make then a nasty horde unit.

As you can see they are looking mighty mean and ready for battle. I am pretty please with them and all I need to do is sort out a movement tray for them. On another high note O'Shashar's eagle eye caught a nice box of terrain in our local GS. I have taken a picture of my share of the haul below. I paid £62.10 for it and the RRP of it is around £100 so I think that's a pretty good deal for what I got.

That's all for this week our loyal followers, we hope to have some more updates soon on our various projects. I am hoping to have my Orc Boyz done as soon as possible as that will bring me just below the half way mark, but this scenery is crying out to be painted, but I want to 'Chaos' them up to us for my Chaos Space Marines.
